Signal Maintenance of Way Posted for Industry Review
 
The Florida Department of Transportation will be soliciting Technical and Price Proposals for the Central Florida Rail Corridor (CFRC) Signal Maintenance of Way Services. A draft copy of the Request for Proposal (RFP) is being made available for industry review and comment through October 24, 2011. The Department requests input from firms in this industry. Please take the time to review this document and send any comments to the website http://www2.dot.state.fl.us/construction/D5, as instructed on page 17 of the RFP document. The input provided will be considered in preparation of the final document to be advertised and will help ensure a successful procurement and project for all parties involved.
 
This RFP includes Exhibits E through I and due to the file size, they are available on DVD to any interested firm. See the instructions on page 12 to obtain a copy of the DVD.
 
The RFP may be accessed from the "Industry Review" box at right, or on the FDOT Question and Answer site at http://www2.dot.state.fl.us/construction/D5 . All questions and comments should be submitted through the Question and Answer site.

Join Our Team

RailWorks Track Systems has teamed up with joint venture partner Archer Western Contractors to construct SunRail, a 62-mile design-build commuter rail line project in the Greater Orlando area. The project will be constructed in five segments over 32 miles with 12 stations linking DeBary, Fla., to Orlando. RaillWorks will maintain the existing 62 miles of track to current main line conditions while also building approximately 14 miles of new track including 66 turnouts. RailWorks also will install 87 new crossings with new track, signals and train control and will construct a new yard and maintenance facility.

Construction contractor receives "Notice to Proceed"
 
The Florida Department of Transportation on July 5, 2011 gave the green light to Archer Western/Railworks, a joint venture, to begin Final Design and maintenance mobilization activities required to start construction on the SunRail corridor. Once that effort is complete, construction is expected to begin in the fall. Job Opportunities
 
The Florida Department of Transportation plans to competitively bid contracts for the construction, operations and maintenance of SunRail. Once contracts are awarded, winning bidders will be responsible for hiring workers to fill all jobs associated with SunRail. The first of those contracts, for construction within the railroad right-of-way, is expected to be finalized in 2011. The Florida Department of Transportation does plan to coordinate with vendors and post job information in the "Job Opportunities" box at right once contracts are awarded. FDOT awards first SunRail construction contract
 
  
 
The Florida Department of Transportation awarded a professional services contract in February 2009 to a joint venture led by Atlanta-based Archer Western Contractors Ltd. and RailWorks Track Systems, Inc. of New York City, for partial design and construction associated with Central Florida's SunRail commuter rail transit project.
 
 
 
Information about job opportunities associated with the contract will be posted when available. Construction on the project is not expected to begin until early 2011. 
 
Archer Western was selected from a highly competitive final group of three contract consortiums to perform construction work within the CSX Transportation right-of-way, including track and signal work and platform construction.
